More than 61,000 people flocked to Atlanta Streets Alive on Peachtree Street from Downtown to Midtown on bikes, skates, feet, wheelchairs, and more to spend time with friends, family, and neighbors.

Take the next step, speak up for bike lanes on Peachtree Road
If you enjoyed walking, biking, or rolling on Peachtree Street on Sunday, then please attend the Peachtree Road public meeting on Thursday, Oct. 29th to share your thoughts on GDOT's safety plans for Peachtree Road.

Controversy has erupted over a Georgia Department of Transportation project that would add turn lanes, medians, wider sidewalks, and bike lanes to Peachtree Road, north of Midtown to Buckhead. Due to the "increasingly vocal anti-bike lane Atlantans" and pushback from neighborhoods adjacent to Peachtree Road, GDOT is offering a modified plan. It would include 5 lanes on half the corridor (with bike lanes) and 6 lanes on the other half (without). Political considerations, while important, should not trump safety.

The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition believes Peachtree Road should become a Complete Street with bike lanes throughout, not just on a section. People on bikes need to get to places on Peachtree, from retail to jobs, to restaurants, to higher density residences, just like anyone else.

                                          

The final open streets of the year is on November 8th for Clarkston Streets Alive! The streets of Clarkston will spring to life as a 1.2-mile loop is opened to people on foot, bike, and other human-powered activities, and closed to motorized traffic. Clarkston Streets Alive is an initiative of the Clarkston Community Center and the City of Clarkston, in partnership of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition.
