When we launched Atlanta Streets Alive in 2010, we set out to shift Atlanta’s culture. We wanted to inspire Atlantans to re-envision and reclaim our city streets as public spaces for people. Now, 10 years, 29 open streets demonstrations, 83 miles, and 1.7 MILLION participants later, a modest mile on Edgewood Avenue has evolved into an award-winning initiative. It’s clear that Atlanta Streets Alive has been embraced by Atlantans as part of our city's cultural signature. So where will the next decade take us?
On Wednesday, May 20 we gathered with participants, key partners, and volunteers to celebrate 10 wonderful years of Atlanta Streets Alive and give an update on what we are focusing on as we move into the next decade. It was fun to not only share our plans and reveal our 10th Anniversary Atlanta Streets Alive t-shirt, but also see everyone's faces and celebrate together, while still being apart. You can watch the live stream for the full recap, as well as read below!
As the mission of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition has evolved from one focused on making biking equitable, safe, and appealing to one that includes walking and transit, we’ve found that the Atlanta Streets Alive initiative is more relevant than ever as a way to help us reclaim our streets as safe, inclusive, and thriving spaces for people to ride, walk, and roll.
Over the past decade, we’ve seen Atlanta Streets Alive grow in popularity and be embraced as a signature aspect of Atlanta’s culture and identity. Through this inspiring shared experience, for a few hours at a time, we’ve been able to realize the vision of our streets as safe, vibrant, and welcoming public spaces.
Nowhere has this transformation been more evident than on Peachtree Street. Peachtree Street is also where our city’s momentum towards more sustainable modes of transportation is most visible. This corridor is where there’s a distinct opportunity for Atlanta Streets Alive to build on public enthusiasm for open streets and further establish sustainable transportation as an essential part of our city’s daily life and infrastructure.
That is why, in this milestone year for the initiative, we are shifting its focus to establishing a weekly Atlanta Streets Alive program on Peachtree Street. We plan to introduce this higher frequency format with a four-week pilot when circumstances allow for a safe open streets experience. Please stay connected to us on social media for further details about the timing of the pilot program. Please also visit our FAQ for answers and updates about our 2020 plans.

Every year at Atlanta Streets Alive we have had a signature t-shirt for sale, from designs by popular local artists like BlackCatTips and Yoyo Fero, to our staple I ATL tee. However, our most requested t-shirt has been our staff/volunteer shirt with our iconic Atlanta Streets Alive logo. So, to celebrate 10 years, we decided to incorporate the logo into our commemorative design, as well as pay tribute to all of our past routes. Without further ado, here is our 10-year anniversary Atlanta Streets Alive t-shirt!
The design is available for purchase on our website for $17 and comes in a variety of colors -- 19 to be exact! Each purchase will benefit Atlanta Streets Alive. Get yours today!
