Gwinnett: opportunity to get involved for better biking
Gwinnett County is getting ready to pick projects to be funded by a Special Projects Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST. SPLOST monies can be spent on bike projects.
On Monday, August 26, the Citizen's Project Selection Committee will be selected. This group prioritizes how the money is spent over the next two decades. Many of the bike facilities now being constructed around Gwinnett County were funded by SPLOST collections during the 1990s. Without our input, tax dollars from this year's SPLOST will be channeled away from bicycle infrastructure, and projects like the West Gwinnett Bikeway, bikelanes on our highways, and multiuse paths throughout the county will never develop. We need concerned cyclists to attend Monday's meeting and we need a cyclist willing to serve on the Selection Committee.

Bicycle advocates have, over the past twelve years, focused on the environmental group and successfully elected cyclists to this panel. Each concern meets separately to elect their representative, and the environmental group traditionally has few participants. If enough cyclists attend this year's meeting, we can have a voice in transportation design and construction.
Meeting time and location: 6:30-9:00PM at the Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Dr, Lawrenceville, GA.
