Tools for selecting a bike route
Ride the City is a website that helps you find safer bike routes in cities. Like other mapping applications, Ride the City finds the shortest distance between two points, with a difference. First, Ride the City avoids roads that aren't meant for biking, like highways and busy arterial streets. Second, Ride the City tries to steer cyclists toward routes that maximize the use of bike lanes, bike paths, greenways, and other bike-friendly streets. For an illustrated walkthrough of the site, to explore its capabilities and to answer frequent questions, visit ridethecity.com/faq. Remember that Ride the City is in its beta testing phase. To help make it better, click the feedback link in the menu bar (on the main page) to send route suggestions and comments, or contact info@ridethecity.com. They even have an app!
The A-Train Trip Planner was launched in November 2007 by Citizens for Progressive Transit, Atlanta's grassroots transit advocacy organization. NEW: Advanced Bike Routing Options: The ability to fine-tune routing preferences for bicycle-based trips has been greatly enhanced. You can now specify the relative importance of trip length, route topography, and roadway/facility type using the new "bike triangle" adjustment widget .
Directions by bicycle: maps.google.com (click on "Get Directions," then click the bike icon). Google notes, "Bicycling directions are in beta. Use caution and please report unmapped bike routes, streets that aren't suited for cycling, and other problems here."
