"Governor Certifies $66 million in transportation projects;" bicycle and pedestrian Transportation projects miss the boat

"Today Governor Sonny Perdue announced that he has certified $65.8 million in transportation projects under the “1511 Certification” that will be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These projects will bring safety improvements and needed maintenance and support to roads, intersections and bridges around Georgia ,” said Governor Perdue . “The federal funds will make our roads safe and strengthen our transportation network.”

Two bicycle/pedestrian projects appear on the list - one to build a multi-use trail in Johns Creek (Fulton County) for $165,000 and the other a Rails to Trails project in Warm Springs for $587,000. That's 1.1% of the total, but who's keeping track? To make our roads safe and strengthen our transportation network for all modes and users will require more than just an influx of funds - it will require a change of heart.

Cobb received $1,397,000 to resurface CR 1720/WINDY HILL FM CR 1154/POWERS FERRY RD TO SR 3/US 41. Neither Gwinnett nor DeKalb appears to have received funding in this cycle.
