Jared Welsh

Jared rediscovered cycling several years ago as a sensible way to cover the few miles he’d once driven, and he quickly realized that cycling could change not just his life but the landscape of his community. He soon became an ABC member and began working to help Atlanta realize its potential as a truly livable city, one that offers a unique and beautiful urban experience despite its reputation for traffic and sprawl. Jared joined the ABC Board in late 2010.

Lyubov (Lyuba) Zuyeva

Lyuba comes from Russia and spent several years living and working in Asheville, North Carolina, where she started biking to work. Motivated by the desire to help create more sustainable communities, Lyuba obtained a dual master's degree in City and Regional Planning and Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Andrea Hatter

Andrea Hatter is new to the ABC board and to bicycle commuting. After moving into the heart of Atlanta from the ‘burbs, she picked up a folding bike for her daily commute. One month later, she met Rebecca Serna at a BeltLine event and became an avid participant of Heels on Wheels. The rest, as they say, is history.

Andrea has lived in the Metro-Atlanta area for 10 years as a freelance graphic designer and writer, in addition to her consistent employment at the AJC. With the pseudonym “Madeline Hatter,” she is a published author of an unromantic comedy, Lookin’ in the Mirror.

Henry Slack

Henry Slack has been an avid commuting cyclist and ABC supporter for many years. As a member of the first ABC Board, he helped with early issues that faced ABC. He also served as the Southern Bicycle League’s Director of Advocacy through much of the 1990s. Before ABC started, he taught Effective Cycling, an early version of Confident City Cycling classes.

ABC adds new board members

As we approach the end of 2010, we found ourselves with several unfilled vacancies on our Board of Directors. While we will also elect new board members at the annual meeting / Members' Night in January to replace those board members leaving at the end of 2010, we decided to go ahead and recruit new board members to fill our existing gaps. We're so pleased to announce that the following ABC volunteers have joined our board:

Andrea Hatter - Quality Assurance Specialist, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Henry Slack - Federal government, Environmental Engineer

Bernardo Gomez

Bernardo is a native of Colombia, and has lived in Atlanta since 1994. He joined ABC in 1997 and has served on the Board since 2003. He has devoted much of his Board activities to the Motorist Safety Committee. Bernardo works for the computing center at Emory University and rides his bicycle to work for a comfortable 2.5 mile distance.

While living in Madison, Wisconsin for 10 years, he also rode his bicycle to work. As an ABC member, he has served as a volunteer in many activities and has encouraged friends and colleagues to use public transportation and ride a bike to work.

Dan Hourigan

Dan has served on the ABC Board since 2001 and is committed to improving cycling conditions in Atlanta. His interest in cycling grew rapidly when he was able to ride with friends on the Erie Canal towpath in Syracuse, New York. Dan now rides for recreation, exercise, and occasionally to work.

Susan Bacon

Susan Bacon is a grant writer with her own firm, Palmetto Consulting. Prior to this position, she worked as a professional educator in elementary, middle and high schools teaching various topics. Her last teaching assignments encompassed high school and middle school science. She has also developed and implemented an air quality education program for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control; and is also a certified grant writer.

John Adams

John has been a life long lover of Schwinn bicycles and has been committed to augmenting his commute to work with bicycling. He enjoys weekend rides with his family and is an avid electric bike enthusiast and dreams of one day spearheading a pedicab company.

John is passionate about conflict resolution and is a certified mediator and consultant for HTI. John serves as co-chair for Social Concerns Committee with The Atlanta Friends Meeting in Decatur, Georgia.
