Workshop Details
- Action 2020 Workshops are intended to bring together:
- Bicycle and pedestrian advocates
- Government agency staff
- Elected officials
- Understand the funding process and the important role of advocates, agency staff, and elected officials in securing this funding;
- Learn about under-utilized funding sources that exist for biking and walking projects and programs;
- Learn the key characteristics, requirements, and opportunities of those sources;
- Learn best practices from experts in the field; and
- Share knowledge and experiences in the local context
About Peter Lagerwey
Peter Lagerwey is the Regional Office Director for Toole Design Group in the Northwest. Peter has over 26 years managing high profile pedestrian and bicycle projects and programs with the City of Seattle and as a private consultant. Peter is a nationally known expert having worked on non-motorized projects and made presentations in over 200 states, counties and cities. He was the project manager for developing and implementing the widely acclaimed Seattle Bicycle Master Plan; and co-author of the FHWA manual and training course on “How to Develop a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP). Peter has taught the PSAP course along with the FHWA’s designing for Pedestrian Safety (DPS) course in eleven states.
About Andy Clarke
Andy Clarke was appointed to the position of Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists in April of 2004 after successfully leading efforts to create, interpret and implement the various transportation programs that are available to improve conditions for bicycling and walking as the League’s State and Local Advocacy Director. Before joining the League in February 2003, Clarke was on contract to provide technical assistance to the highly regarded Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center on site at the Federal Highway Administration. In addition to his strong policy background, Clarke has managed a range of bicycle and pedestrian planning projects at the state and metropolitan levels and has worked extensively with state and local advocacy groups. Clarke is a 1984 graduate of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom with an undergraduate degree in Law. He is on the Board of Directors for America Bikes, and a member of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycling Professionals.
About Jeffrey Miller
Jeff began as President / CEO of the Alliance for Biking & Walking in the spring of 2008. A bike advocate since 1990, Jeff served as Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine for nearly 12 years, growing the organization into one of the strongest and most respected bicycle coalitions in North America. Jeff was awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship in 1992 to study and experience the bicycle infrastructure and policies in 15 countries including Japan, China, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe. That 14-month around-the-world bike tour served as a significant part of his education in bicycle advocacy, policy, and infrastructure design. Jeff, who now lives in Washington DC serves on the board of the nation's largest bicycling organization, the Adventure Cycling Association, America Walks, and America Bikes, the national coalition of eight national advocacy organizations promoting biking and walking in the federal transportation bill.
