Bike Lanes
on Peachtree Street? What a Cool Idea!
One of ABC's most important
long term projects is to lay bicycle lanes and
other on-road bike facilities on Peachtree and Lee Streets, from city limit
to city limit. They've been in the city master plan for years, but haven't
been funded, or even added during resurfacing over the years. Beginning now,
we get serious about them. What better way can there be of signaling metro
Atlanta's realization for the need for fewer highways, and instead cleaner
air, more bikable roads, and a better quality of life for us all! Atlanta
bicyclists can have no better forum for our passion than bike lanes on Atlanta's
most famous of streets.
What Is ABC's Current Effort
All About?
We'll need to develop
marketing materials, meet with dozens of business owners, elected officials,
neighborhood groups, and other advocacy organizations, selling them on the
benefits of a Peachtree/Lee Street Bicycle corridor. We will have to be polished,
in both our collateral materials and our message.
And
we need your help to make this project a reality!
First,
we need volunteers for a wide assortment of tasks. From a graphic designer
for our initial brochure, to project strategists, to representatives to visit
Buckhead business associations, it will take a strong, talented, and committed

Second,
we need funds we can earmark for this project. Some of the costs associated
with our efforts will include the production of a brochure and associated
artwork, the time and leadership of Dennis Hoffarth, our Executive Director,
more T-shirts, bumper stickers (and other good schwag), mailings, presentations,
and time and space for our planning meetings.
Here's how you can help:
1) Provide ABC with your
most basic support, either through a new membership, or renewing your existing
one. · If you are already a supporter and member of ABC, renew
your current membership now. Print out the form and mail it in along with
your check. You were going to do it anyway, so do it early. · If you aren't
a member, JOIN!
ABC
is out there fighting for better on-road conditions for everyone, and
we want you as part of the effort. If not you, then who?
2) Next, above and beyond
your membership dues, make a donation to the Peachtree/Lee Streets Bicycle
Project.
