In some parts of the world, driver education starts in middle school, on a bicycle. Students learn how to "drive" their bikes, how traffic works, and how to interact safely with cars. When they learn to drive cars as older teens or adults, this early education and experience with riding helps them become safer, more responsible car operators.
This Confident City Cycling class is based on the principles of vehicular cycling and is a perfect lesson to take with your family. Bring your husband, your partner, your mom. Riding bicycles is a free way to spend quality time with your family doing something healthy for yourselves and for the environment. And hopping on your bike to get to the store, library, or a local restaurant is a great way to stay in shape, save on gas, and keep our air clean.
So come on out for a fun morning learning how to safely "drive" your bike. Participants must be age 14 or above.
Content
You'll learn about lane positioning, most common crash types and how to avoid them, do skills drills on the bike, and get your questions answered. Then after the classroom instruction and parking lot drills, take a practice ride with stops for instructor feedback that our students tell us is the very best part of this class. You'll leave on the road to becoming a more confident cyclist on the streets and and on the trails.
This small investment (a few hours and a few dollars) in your safety and well-being will pay off by drastically reducing your risk of being in a crash, which means many years of enjoyment of the simple pleasure of riding a bike.
