Buford Highway - Crucial Support Needed for Bicycle Accommodations

A major re-make of this over-sized road is being proposed. Preliminary features include bike lanes and a multi-use trail. The corridor under study goes from Sidney Marcus Boulevard in DeKalb County all the way to Duluth in Gwinnett County! This road is extremely important as a spine route for a regional bikeway network. Regional hearings are being held by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).
The Atlanta Regional Commission is asking for suggestions to improve Buford Highway. Over the next few weeks, members of the public have the chance to take part in the Atlanta Regional Commission's two-year study of ways to improve Buford Highway. They will be holding a public meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Norcross City Hall. The second meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2007 at Northeast Plaza (3337 Buford Highway in Atlanta). The final meeting is scheduled for February 6, 2007 at Duluth City Hall. All meetings start at 7 p.m.

If you ride a bicycle in the Atlanta Region, please attend one of the upcoming hearings.
Or provide comments by e-mail to the Atlanta Regional Commission at http://www.atlantaregional.com/MMCS/11.htm.

Details about the Buford Highway project are on the ARC's website, http://www.atlantaregional.com/MMCS/13.htm, along with directions to each of the public meeting locations.
