Street Committees - Community Advocates for Safe Streets. Online Enrollment  ends on October 12th, 2020
Now seeking: Community Advocates for Safe Streets

IS THIS YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD?

Among the top ten most dangerous streets in Atlanta are Moreland Avenue (#1) and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (#5). These corridors are part of the High Injury Network, where just 8% of Atlanta roads account for 88% of deadly traffic crashes. In this case, being #1 is bad for people, bad for business, bad for community, and bad for lives. If your neighborhood is along one of these corridors--Moreland Avenue or Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway--you can make it #1 for safety, liveability, and inclusivity instead.

WHERE DO I START?

Join a people-led, safe streets committee for your corridor. Committees will consist of Atlanta residents, small business owners, and community members who live or work along one of these corridors. Together you will learn, share ideas, and influence government decisions about your corridor by recommending safety interventions that serve you and your neighbors best.

WHAT WILL I DO?

Participate in:
- four training calls during Oct-Nov 2020
- monthly street committee meetings (total of 6 meetings Jan-Jun 2021)
- two joint street committee meetings (total of 2 meetings)
- at least one Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) meeting to provide a committee update
- a presentation to state and/or local transportation agencies
- spreading your knowledge of how to make community streets safer through social media posts, community message boards, neighborhood meetings, or local media outlets.

HOW WILL I BE SUPPORTED?

Participants will receive:
- a stipend (amount TBD)
- training on transportation planning in Atlanta
- assisted development of sound recommendations for the safety and mobility of you and your neighbors
- strategies, ideas, tools, and a network to add to the advocacy already happening in your community
- support as you develop a committee structure, meeting format, and agendas
- the opportunity to affect decisions through formal presentations made to state and/or local transportation agencies
